The first written mention of Cuci dates back to the 14th century, in the form Cutfolua, Kugfolwa.<\/h3>\n\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t

The first known owners of the Cuci estate were the Pekry family. Pekry L\u00e1szl\u00f3 converted to Catholicism and was made a count in 1692. Pekry L\u0151rinc's wife,Petr\u0151czy Kata Szid\u00f3nia, is considered the first Hungarian poet.<\/h3>\n\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t

After Pekry’s death, for the next almost a hundred years, the estate was passed down through female lines. Their daughter, Polix\u00e9nia, married baron Daniel Istv\u00e1n. From this marriage Daniel Polix\u00e9nia was born, and by through her marriage the estate became the property of baron Wessel\u00e9nyi Istv\u00e1n. In 1800, the daughter of Teleki \u00c1d\u00e1m, Anna, married count Maximilian von Degenfeld-Schonburg.<\/h3>\n\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t

The Degenfeld family, however, lived mainly on their estate in Ardusat.<\/h3>\n\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t

After the death of Maximilian in 1816, the estate was inherited by his eldest son Otto, who lived mainly in Szir\u00e1k (Hungary). After 1849, Ott\u00f3’s minor son, Lajos became the heir to the estate. In the early 20th century, Lajos gave the estate to his son Krist\u00f3f and modernised it by adding two side wings to the old mansion (which was probably built in the early 19th century), in 1907. Degenfeld Krist\u00f3f\u00a0 would thus become the founder of the Degenfelds’ Cuci branch. After the nationalisation, the castle was used as a Mayor’s office, a doctor\u2019s practice\u00a0 and a library.
